Take a look at our list if you would like to learn some important things that you should know before your relocation to Europe!
People in Europe speak many different languages, depending on the country
One of the most important things that you should know when it comes to moving to Europe is that there are so many countries there – more than 50 sovereign states! Different languages are being spoken in these states, so it’s important to know that not everyone you encounter will know English perfectly! Even though English is a global language, there are some nations in Europe which will refuse to speak English – examples include the people from France, the people from Sweden, etc. Or, they simply might not know any English – occasionally, in some countries, people will not know English at all! But, don’t worry, that’s quite rare nowadays. I f you are interested in knowing more about the languages in Europe or you want to see what to prepare for in your future home check out this link- European Languages.
A different climate zone
Another important thing that you should know is that the weather is much different in Europe than what you’ve gotten used to in the United States. This mostly due to the different geographical properties that the European continent has! The European continent is surrounded by several oceans and seas:
- The Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea and Caspian Sea to the south
- The Atlantic Ocean to the west
- The Arctic Ocean to the north
All of these oceans significantly influence the climate of each of the aforementioned regions. It is also very common for a single country in Europe to have several microclimates. It is important to know exactly which climate you will be moving to, because that can impact your packing process significantly. For example, if you’re moving to a cold climate, somewhere on the north of Europe, you might want to pack lots of warm clothes!
Another interesting fact about Europe is that it’s full of mountains and flatlands. Take a look at some of the biggest mountain ranges in Europe:
- The Alps
- The Pyrenees
- The Carpathians
The European continent also has two peninsulas:
- The Iberian Peninsula
- The Italian Peninsula
A different currency and economy
Did you know that Europe is the leading force of the world when it comes to economy? The currency of the European Union is euro. There are other countries which don’t use euro as their currency, mostly in the eastern regions of Europe. Europe’s GDP per capita was estimated to be US$21,767, according to the 2016 International Monetary Fund assessment. Some of the wealthiest countries in the world are in Europe, such as France, Germany, Italy, Spain, etc!
As you can already imagine life in Europe can be very different from life in the States, but do not worry many people have grown accustomed to it and even say they prefer it now.
