Common mistakes during relocation and how to fix them
Have you decided to move across the Atlantic Ocean? International relocation is often times a very time-consuming and complicated process. This is particularly true for those who haven’t had any previous experience with relocation. Relocation, especially international relocation, needs to be planned out weeks in advance. Every step of the way needs to be well organized and timed, in order to avoid any issues along the way. However, people often make mistakes during their relocation, but that’s OK. In this blog, we will cover some of the most common mistakes people make and how you can easily fix them!
Mistake No. 1: Failing to organize and plan everything out in time
As we’ve already previously said, organization is the key to a successful and stress-free relocation process. In order to be well organized, you need to think everything step of the way through. You also need to take into account any possible problems that you might encounter and think of possible solutions. It is a good idea to write down a timetable or a schedule, so that you don’t forget anything that’s important. Plan everything weeks in advance and recheck your plan to see if you missed anything!
Mistake No. 2: Don’t leave important things for the last minute
Similar to the first mistake we have covered, leaving something for the last minute will result in stressful situations and additional issues. Make sure that you have everything ready for your relocation date. It’s also a good idea to have everything prepared and on stand-by days in advance, just so that if you suddenly remember that you forgot something, you can easily fix it.
Mistake No. 3: Don’t think you’ll be able to pack everything by yourself
Packing is not an easy process. It takes a lot of time and effort. It also takes a bit of strength. It’s a good idea to have a friend or two who will be able to help you out if you get tired or can’t continue packing anymore. Don’t forget that packing can take up to a couple of days, especially if you have lots of furniture and things laying around your house. Make sure that you pack some snacks, food and refreshing beverages. Don’t be too hard on yourself – allow yourself to have a short break when necessary. Don’t get carried away with packing – it’s OK to stop and continue the next day, after you have gotten some shuteye.
Mistake No. 4: Don’t forget about your own safety
People tend to forget that relocation can sometimes be risky. For example, you wouldn’t want to lift an entire sofa onto the moving truck all by yourself. You could seriously injure your back! Also, while packing, it’s a good idea to use some sort of protective gloves. Don’t handle everything with your bare hands – it’s safer to have gloves, just in case! Another good idea is to use dollies for loading your furniture onto the moving truck.
